Gamma Phi Beta is a proud to be a sponsor of Camp Laurel, a nonprofit organization which hosts a variety of camps for children ages 6-through 16 who are either infected or affected by AIDS or HIV.

Created by Margot Andrew, Camp Laurel hosted its first session in the summer of 1994 for 13 children. Since then, the sessions have dramatically grown in size. In addition to the summer excursions to Big Bear Lake, there are several other resident camps throughout the year, including one for the entire family in the winter and fall such as adventure camps to places like the Grand Canyon.

A number of day camps, parties and outings are also held during the year, providing the kids with opportunities to renew the friendships and support groups established during their stay at the previous resident camps.

None of these outings could be accomplished if it weren't for the volunteers who create a warm, loving, and supporting atmosphere for children learning to cope with illness. The majority of the volunteers are college students such as the girls within Gamma Phi beta.
